What can you tell me about Florida ?

Answer:
Nicknamed the "Sunshine State" or
the "Peninsula State", Florida (FL) is the fourth most populous state in the United States, with a total population exceeding 19 million.

Although the Florida Territory was under the auspices of the US government since the 1820s, it did not become our 27th state until 1845. The capital is Tallahassee, although cities such as Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville and St. Petersburg are more populous.

Florida's state flower is the orange blossom, which is appropriate for a state known for its citrus fruit production.  The official state bird is the mockingbird.  The state's official saltwater mammal is the dolphin, perhaps best recognized as the symbol of the Miami Dolphins professional football team.

Florida's climate is notoriously temperate, owing to its location near the subtropics.  The southern section of Florida boasts year round temperatures between 70 and 90 degrees, although there are rare occasions where temperatures dip close or below the freezing mark.

The northern section of Florida, known as the Panhandle, may have less predictable weather, with winter snowstorms and freezes possible.  Many tourists visit Florida to escape harsh winter conditions elsewhere, and many attractions such as Sea World, Disney World and Universal Studios are able to remain open year-round.

Other popular Florida destinations include the beaches of Ft. Lauderdale, Daytona and Miami.  The Florida Everglades are also popular with adventurous tourists, and the small islands or keys which form Key West offer tourists a myriad of activities, including excursions to the warm sands of the nearby Bahamas.

There are a number of famous Floridians, although many people may be surprised to learn they hail from the Sunshine State.  Among the most famous Florida natives are actor Sidney Poitier, singer Pat Boone, former Attorney General Janet Reno, actress Faye Dunaway,  baseball player Dwight Gooden, and the late Doors frontman Jim Morrison.
