South Dakota is also home to Custer State Park (with many buffalo), Jewel Cave National Monument, and the city of Deadwood, an historic landmark. Even in the winter, South Dakota has cross country skiing and snow-mobiling in a number of places throughout the state. South Dakota also has a number of unique sights, such as the Corn Palace in Mitchell and Wall Drug, which claims to be the number one roadside stop in America, with numerous attractions. Winters can be chilly, however, so be sure you have your trip planned well if you plan to drive in those months. If your goal doesn’t include winter activities, the best times to visit South Dakota is from May through September.
