In Albuquerque, there is the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta every October. Balloon Fiesta Park boasts 365 custom-designed acres. Although there are plenty of activities for the whole family during this nine day event the signature event remains the Balloon Fiesta – the largest ballooning event in the world.

Southern New Mexico offers Carlsbad Caverns National Park as a great family vacation getaway. Carlsbad boasts 113 of the more than 300 known caves around west Texas and southeastern New Mexico. Cavers will enjoy the exquisite formations as they walk a winding trail. Both guided and self-guided tours are available. At the bottom of the cave (750 feet) there is an underground lunchroom where you can grab a snack to eat. Another special treat at Carlsbad Caverns is the Bat Flight program which occurs mid-May through mid-October.

In Silver City, New Mexico, you’ll find the Cliff Dwellings National Monument which is surrounded by the Gila National Forest at the edge of the Gila Wilderness. If you and your family are hikers you’ll find that hiking in the area is a popular activity. From the Visitor Center you can hike 20 minutes to Lightfeather, the closest hot springs.
