What is Double Booking?

Answer:
Double booking can be in the hotel industry,
but is also done in the airline industry.  The main definition of double booking would be reserving the same room or the same airline seat to two different people of two different reservations at the same time or date.  Since these industries both want to utilize all of their rooms or seats for the maximum amount of profits, these industries may at times double book.  The goal is to ensure the seats or rooms are all filled.

When flying back to Tennessee with my three kids, our airlines had over booked our flight. They asked for volunteers to give up their seats. In return the airlines would give the volunteers a free airline ticket, food vouchers, free hotel stay and another flight out for the next day.

Since we were on no time schedule, we got four free tickets and a  first class bump the next day.  The tickets were good for a free flight within the next year.

So if your travelling for pleasure and aren't limited to time constraints consider giving up your double booked seat.
